There are a number of ways Philippine politics is similar to American politics. Women are used to make and unmake politicians. Here is how Women affected Philippine politics:
- Corazon Aquino who appealed for the sympathy of Filipinos over her husband Ninoy's death led people power 1 which expelled dictator Ferdinand Marcos and which ultimately symbolized Philippine democracy and power. (People power, however, has been abused with Filipino people always considering the idea of an uprising when they dislike a politician in position).
- Laarni Enriquez. While Erap became President despite public knowledge about his numerous relationships with other women, the favors he gave to these women have been put into question when he was questioned for plunder and which consequently resulted in his ouster. Remember the Boracay Mansion he built for Laarni Enriquez? It was among those that cost him his Presidency.
- Gloria Arroyo replaced Erap. Shall I also say, popularized the Hello garci political ringtone?
- Sharon Cuneta and Vilma Santos. Having a beautiful and intellectual actress as wife- endorser can surely boost a politician's senatorial career.
- Mike Arroyo's alleged mistress. I doubt the woman's effect on the political career of GMA but some strategists who brought out the issue might have considered the idea that another woman can result in another ouster of a president.
